Traffic lights ‘reappear’ in Kathmandu streets



KATHMANDU: Traffic lights that the government had temporarily shut down with the enforcement of lockdown have gradually reappearing in the streets of Kathmandu.

According to Metropolitan Traffic Police Division, Kathmandu, traffic lights have brought into operation with the relaxation of the lockdown and introduction of the odd-even system of vehicles.

SSP Bhim Dhakal of Metropolitan Traffice Police Division Kathmandu said that the traffic lights at Padmodaya-1, New Baneswor, Old Baneshwor, Subhidhanagar, Gaurigaun, Munibhairav, Kalimati Chowk, Kalimati Shalik, Naya Thimi Chowk, Singh Durbar, and Gaushala have come into operation.

The Division is planning to operate the traffic lights of Putalisadak, Padmodaya-2, Mitrapark, Narayan Gopal Chowk, Paropakar, Tankeswor, Mahapal (Lalitpur) soon.

SSP Dhakal informed that the Division has decided to restart the traffic light control in other places as per the vehicular movement in those places.

The traffic police have requested drivers and pedestrians alike to abide by the traffic lights regulations to minimize the number of accident tolls.

Prioritizing the technology-friendly traffic management, the Division had reinstalled the traffic lights lying out of order for more than 9 years just few months before the lockdown.
