40 Nepalis dead bodies brought to Nepal

KATHMANDU: Dead bodies of 40 Nepalis who died due to various reasons abroad during the lockdown have been brought to Nepal.

The bodies were brought to Nepal via chartered flights, which used actually meant to repatriated the stranded Nepalis abroad.

So far, 20 bodies have been brought from Qatar, 11 from Malaysia, six from Kuwait, one each from Oman, the UAE and Saudi Arabia.

Out of 318 victims, 114 families have given permission to perform the last rites in the country where they died.

There are still 164 dead bodies left to be managed.

The dead bodies had been stranded abroad for months after the international flights were canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Chiran Sharma, press coordinator of the COVID-19 High Level Committee of the Non-Resident Nepali Association, informed that the Association has already given instructions to the concerned national committee to perform their funerals and for the management of dead bodies.
