146 NOC staff undergo tests for coronavirus

KATHMANDU: Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC) has conducted a PCR test for its  146 staff.

According to the NOC sources, the PCR test was undertaken among the members of the board of directors of the corporation and its operators working at Babarmahal-based central office, Teku office, Thankot Depot, and Sinamangal-based air-fuel depot.

Medical tests of the NOC staffers were carried out with the assistance of health workers serving at the National Public Health Laboratory, Teku, informed NOC trade union chair, Gopal Chandra Rai.

The swab samples of the frontline staffers who directly come into contact with drivers and helpers of the bullets carrying petro products through different transit points were collected for testing, he further informed.

The testing that has been initiated from the central office Kathmandu would soon to be expanded in all seven states. It was undertaken to boost the confidence of the employees, he added.

As per the decision of the NOC board of directors’ meeting held in the second week of May, the office has already insured all employees including contractual, temporary, and daily wagers which worth amounting to Rs 100,000 each in view of heightened risks of COVID-19 in the country.
