Minister Bhusal says it’s right time to advance agriculture

KATHMANDU: Minister for Agriculture and Livestock Development Ghanashyam Bhusal has said that this was the right time for reforms and advancement in the agriculture sector.

Responding to queries during deliberations on the Seeds (second amendment) Bill, 2075 at the National Assembly today, Minister Bhusal said the time had also come to restructure the agro sector based on the Constitution. All three tiers of governments can be assigned different roles by the law.

With the bill in place, the State and local governments can protect, preserve, and enlist indigenous seeds and crops. As per the bill, the federal government will have a regulation role while State and local governments will do the work of implementation on the ground.

He also commented that the agriculture sector became weaker after it was left to the market. “All three level governments can work together to address this,” he said.
