KATHMANDU: Devotees have thronged Shiva temples including Pashupatinath Temple to worship Lord Shiva across the country on the occasion of Maha Shivaratri since early Friday.

Hundreds and thousands of devotees are queuing up patiently to catch a glimpse of Lord Shiva and pay homage on the premises of Pashupatinath Temple.

According to Pashupati Area Development Trust (PADT), over 150,000 people have already visited Pashupatinath Temple as of 7 am today.

A large number of devotees, including sages from India, have flocked to Pashupatinath premises to observe the festival.

It is also believed that Lord Shiva was born on this day. Devotees also keep a vigil on this day by burning bonfires to ward off cold for Lord Shiva.

Meanwhile, an arrangement has been made for the devotees to enter the Temple from five routes.

The north door of the temple can be reached through Umakunda-Dakshinamurti and Rudragadeshwor while the west door of the temple could be reached through Jaya Bageshwori-Itapakha-Bhuwaneshwori.

Similarly, devotees could enter the northern door of the temple via Battisputali-Gaushala or Airport-Tilganga-Pingalaisthan-Sumargi-Panchaldev.
