KATHMANDU: The global death toll from coronavirus has reached 2,200, with all except 11 among those deaths in mainland China, CNN reported.

Japan has reported three deaths from the coronavirus, while Hong Kong and Iran have each reported two. Taiwan, the Philippines, South Korea and France have each reported one death.

The global number of confirmed coronavirus cases is 76,691 with the vast majority of cases in mainland China.

Hubei, the Chinese province at the center of the novel coronavirus outbreak, announced 411 new cases today — up from 349 on Thursday, after China changed the definition of a “confirmed case.”

Likewise, South Korea reported a jump of 52 additional cases overnight, bringing the country’s total to 156.

Meanwhile, evacuees from the stricken Diamond Princess cruise ship have tested positive for the virus after arriving in the US and Australia. Cruise goers who tested negative continue to disembark today.
