Govt allows resumption of long-distance transport from Aug 17

Hotels, restaurants to operate from July 30



KATHMANDU: The government decided to allow the operation of long-distance transport and domestic and international flights.

Announcing the decision of the Council of Ministers on Tuesday, Government Spokesperson Dr. Yubaraj Khatiwada said that it has been decided to allow short, medium and long-distance private and public transport to operate from August 17 by fulfilling the health standards set by the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport.

Currently, public and private vehicles have been allowed to operate inside one district only except in Kathmandu Valley.

Likewise, an odd-even rationing system on private vehicles has also been lifted.

Domestic and international flights will also resume from August 17.

The meeting also decided to allow operation of hotels, restaurants, trekking, travel and mountaineering businesses from July 30. However, holding banquets and parties will not be allowed, he added.

Likewise, the Cabinet has decided to allow schools and colleges to take admissions from August 17.

Similarly, it has been decided that the government will bear the entire cost of treatment of the flood and landslide victims, Spokesperson Khatiwada said, adding that the meeting has decided to make reasonable arrangements for the families of the injured, disabled and the deceased.
