Metropolitan Police cuffs person defrauding Rs 15 million



KATHMANDU: The Metropolitan Police Circle, Maharajgunj has nabbed a fraud who had deceived people and collected more than Rs 15 million promising lucrative jobs.

According to Metropolitan Police sources, Mahesh Chand, 24, has been nabbed in a fraud allegation presenting himself as a Section Officer at the Rastriya Banijya Bank’s Chanauta Branch, Kapilbastu.

Alleged Chand, inhabitant of Simta-2, Surkhet, has collected more than 17.5 million rupees from 6 people promising them lucrative jobs.

Pradip Sanyasi, Urmila Sanyasi, Prakash Thapa, Sushil Baniya, Kumari Gurung and Ritesh Poudel fell victim of his promises of lucrative jobs and opportunities.

According to police, Pradip Sanyasi who sued against him in police was promised the job of informer at intelligence bureau whereas Pradip’s sister, Urmila was promised a nursing officer job at Bheri Zonal Hospital. Chand had collected 850 thousand from the Sanyasi siblings.

Likewise, Chand promised to send Prakash Thapa, Sunil Baniya, Kumari Gurung and Ritesh Paudel to Japan and managed to get 200 thousand from each as processing charge.

Later, he got Sanyasis to deposit 15 million rupees in his account for the appointment letter. The siblings realized that they had become the victim of fraud only when they got an empty envelope.

Asking them to collect the appointment letter, he sent them an empty envelope which they were instructed not to open till they joined the office.

According to the police, the victims knew of the fraud only after getting the empty envelope. Alleged Chand is in police custody since Friday.
