NCP SC meeting, sans PM Oli, underway at Baluwatar

KATHMANDU: A Standing Committee (SC) meeting of ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) which has been deadlocked for a long time is underway at the Prime Minister’s official residence in Baluwatar.

However, Prime Minister KP Oli has not attended the meeting.

The meeting is said to focus on narrowing down the differences that have been surfaced in the party, particularly between the two factions — one led by Prime Minister KP Oli and the other led by Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal and senior leader Madhav Kumar Nepal.

The Dahal-Nepal camp has been demanding resignation of Prime Minister Oli from both of his posts, including the party Chairman, while the latter is adamant not to resign from any of his posts.

The SC meeting which started since July 24 has been hit after the Prime Minister’s resignation was made the main agenda of the meeting.

NCP chairman Dahal and Prime Minister who held one-on-one meetings have not been able to hammer out a deal.

Both Oli and Dahal have intensified meetings with the leaders of their camp of late.

On July 18, Oli in the NCP Secretariat meeting had proposed to hold the general convention of the party in November.  The meeting will also discuss it today.
