CIAA directs Land Ministry to ease ban on land plotting

KATHMANDU: The Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority has directed the government to facilitate the plotting of land.

Giving a ten-point directive to the Ministry of Land Management, Cooperatives and Poverty Alleviation on Friday, the commission has directed to repeal the decision to divide one plot of land only once a year.

“Although the rule of dividing the land only once a year has been implemented to stop the haphazard division the land, it does not seem to have stopped it. On the contrary, it has increased corruption in the Land Revenue Office and Land Revenue Office. The attention of the Ministry needs to be drawn towards it,” reads the directive of the anti-graft body.

The CIAA has mentioned that the rule of dividing the land once a year has led to family disintegration, escalation of quarrels, an increase in social malpractice and tendency to divide the land by filing fake cases in the courts.
