KATHMANDU: Nepal has reported 421 new coronavirus cases in the past 24 hours.
The Ministry of Health and Population stated that with the addition of the cases, Nepal’s tally has reached 9,026 as of Sunday afternoon.
Among the newly-infected, 357 are males and 64 females, said Spokesperson Dr. Jageshwor Gautam speaking at a regular press briefing this afternoon.
With this, 75 districts have been affected so far.
Meanwhile, 194 COVID-19 patients — 186 male and 8 female — have been discharged from different hospitals in the last 24 hours after recovering from the virus. With this 1,772, have been discharged across the country so far.
In the last 24 hours, 6,008 samples have been tested through PCR, said Spokesperson Dr. Gautam.
According to him, 17,5183 samples were tested through the PCR and 252,300 through the RDT so far.
At present, 7,231 people are in isolation and 94,928 are in quarantines across the country.
Meanwhile, a 69-year-old man of Gulmi suffering from paralysis, died last week, has tested positive for coronavirus posthumously.
The man of Chatrakot Rural Municipality-5 in Gulmi died on last Friday. He had been in quarantine from June 7 after returning from India.
With this, the total number of deaths so far in the country has reached 23.
Of those infected, 64 were women and 257 were men, the ministry said.
Of the total confirmed cases so far, about 90 percent (8,206) are men and the remaining 820 are women.
Speaking at a press briefing organized by the ministry, expert Dr. Basudev Pandey said that 95 percent of the infected are Indian returnees while 92 percent of them are men.
He said that most of the infected were in the age group of 15 to 54 years and 98 percent did not show any symptoms of Covid-19.
