COVID-19 cases cross 8.9 million globally



KATHMANDU: More than 8.9 million people have been infected with the coronavirus pandemic which has been spreading for the past five and a half months.

A total of 156,923 new cases were reported throughout the globe in a single day as of Sunday morning. With this, total cases have reached 898,556 worldwide.

The number of deaths worldwide in the last 24 hours is 4,428 that took the number of deaths to 466,266. A total of 4.7 million have recovered while 3.7 million are undergoing treatment.

Coronavirus has killed 187,387 people in European countries. European countries had witnessed 2.2 million cases and 1.2 million have recovered so far.

A total of 153,208 people have died in North American countries. The number of infections has reached 2.6 million. Of them, 1.24 million have been declared infection-free.

Similarly, 47,291 people have died in Asian countries. Out of 1.8 million people infected, 1.1 million have recovered and at least 70,287 people have died in South American countries. Of the 1.7 million infected, 948,899 have recovered.

In African countries, 7,941 people have died as 299,841 have been infected. Out of the infected, 144,985 have won their fight against coronavirus.

At least 124 people have been killed in Oceania and Australia. Of the 9,052 people infected, 8,470 have recovered.
