PM Oli defends govt’s move to introduce ordinances

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister KP Oli has defended the government’s move to bring in ordinances.

Speaking at the Secretariat meeting of the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) on Monday night, the prime minister said that the ordinances were brought as constitutional appointments have been hindered, adding that bringing ordinances is not a big deal.

“Party chair KP Oli shared about the rationale behind the two ordinances and expressed his view on the procedures and the relevance of the same,” says a press statement issued by the party Spokesperson Narayankaji Shrestha.

Earlier today, a meeting of Council of Ministers had forwarded the ordinances related to Constitutional Council and Political Party before the President.

President Bhandari has authenticated both the ordinances.

Fresh debates have surfaced within the party after an amendment has been made to the Act related to Political Party so that a new party can be split with at least 40 percent of members of Parliamentary Party or Central Committee.

The meeting emphasized the need to further unify and consolidate the party as well as the nation in the ongoing fight against COVID-19, adds the statement.
