KATHMANDU: The world is suffering from coronavirus pandemic now. When the world is attempting to handle the pandemic adopting various measures, fake news is also mushrooming and occupying a great space of various online and social media.

The widely circulated fake news not only defames the individual made subject there but also confuses the readers and create panic in the society.

The USA has turned out to be the most affected country in the world. As thousands of Nepalis live there, the widespread pandemic there has become a concern for Nepalis all over the world.

Recently, a picture claimed to have been of a pregnant Nepali woman fighting against coronavirus in the USA became viral in social media. Hundreds of people wished for her speedy recovery.

Some media made and broadcast taking based on the Facebook photo. The walls of social media got filled with words of prayers for the pregnant woman.

A short research on the picture and the woman found that the woman was neither a Nepali nor a person in the USA.

The viral photo was actually from Singapore. It was published in the newspapers in 2015. The person in the picture was Kawaljeet Kaur, a domestic worker in Singapore. Some online media of Punjab and Singapore had published the picture in 2015.

Kawaljeet Kaur was admitted to a Singapore based hospital for the brain aneurysm she suffered. The picture was used on the Facebook page and Crowdfund to collect donations for her.

She had undergone treatment on a ventilator in 2015. She was treated in Changi General Hospital in 2015.
