COVID-19 impact: MTD suspends breath-analyzer tests

KATHMANDU: In a bid to protect traffic police personnel from COVID-19 infection, the Metropolitan Traffic Division (MTD) has suspended breath-analyzer tests to check drunk driving.

According to the Chief of the MTD, SSP Bhim Prasad Dhakal, the traffic police would rather take the drink drivers to the hospital and handover them to their relatives, if the need arises.

The decision to this effect has been taken as a precautionary measure against the novel coronavirus spread as traffic police personnel remain vulnerable to the infection as they have to place the breath-analyzer apparatus into the mouth of drivers to check if they are driving drunk.
