Dissolution of Parliament a coup of constitution: Dr. Shekhar Koirala

BIRATNAGAR: Influential leader of Nepali Congress (NC) Dr. Shekhar Koirala has labelled Prime Minister KP Oli’s recommendation for the dissolution of the Parliament a “coup” of the Constitution.

Speaking at a press meet organized in Biratnagar, NC leader Koirala remarked that Poush 5, i.e. December 20 would be observed as a ‘Black Day’ in the days ahead.

He described PM Oli’s move as unconstitutional and illegal.

He stressed that the President should consult with the experts and opposition party before taking further steps.

Commenting on the ongoing conflict in the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) as the party’s internal issue and of no concern to the main opposition party, NC, Dr Koirala, however, made it clear that NC would oppose to the present move.

“Although NC is prepared to face the election mandatorily to be held within six months after the dissolution of the parliament, we shall protest the recent move which is the coup of the constitution,” Dr. Koirala told reporters,

He said NC would make an official decision on it and the protests programs will be launched accordingly.

Describing PM Oli as incapable of resolving the NCP’s internal crisis, Dr. Koriala held PM Oli responsible for the collapse of the two third majority government.

“PM Oli’s move is unconstitutional and unacceptable as no articles of the current constitution let PM Oli dissolve the parliament for such reasons,” he said.
