KATHMANDU: Four ministers in the Prime Minister KP Oli-led cabinet had opposed the PM’s proposal to dissolve the House of Representatives (HoR).
According to sources, four Ministers, including Minister for Foreign Affairs Pradeep Gyawali, Minister for Power and Irrigation Barsha Man Pun, Minister for Agriculture Ghanashyam Bhusal, and Tourism Minister Yogesh Bhattarai had opposed Prime Minister Oli’s proposal to recommend dissolution of the HoR in the cabinet meeting held on Sunday morning.
While most of the Ministers listened to PM’s proposal quietly, Gyawali also known as a close aide to PM Oli for long — also suggested PM not to dissolve the House.
The source claimed that Minister Gyawali asked Prime Minister Oli about the political and legal consequences of the decision and reiterated that the House should not be dissolved.
“Have you considered the political and legal consequences of such a recommendation?” Gyawali asked PM Oli in the cabinet meeting, “Let’s not take the decision of the dissolution of the parliament.”
Likewise, Minister Pun also had requested the PM not to make such a decision as it would be a historical blunder that would never be excused in the future.
Minister Bhusal had also advised the PM to think over other alternatives available and wait for the attempts to resolve the conflict in the party. But PM Oli did not heed their advice.
Amidst the mounting pressure from the ruling NCP to quit the post of party chairman and Prime Minister, PM Oli has recommended President Bidya Devi Bhandari for the dissolution of the House of Representatives.
