KATHMANDU: Prime Minister KP Oli has proposed for holding general elections either on May 6 or May 12, 2021, sources have said.

PM Oli, who reached the President’s Office, Shital Niwas on Sunday morning with the recommendation of dissolving the parliament, has proposed holding the general election on May 6 next year.

According to a source, discussions are underway to hold election on May 12 as an option are underway.

However, President Bidya Devi Bhandari has yet to approve the recommendation to dissolve parliament and declare elections.

Meanwhile, President’s Advisor, Lal Babu Yadav, has said that the President cannot stop the recommendation of the Council of Ministers.

“The President is constitutional. The government’s recommendation cannot be stopped because she does not have executive powers. If she does not authenticate it, then it will be unconstitutional,” Yadav said.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Oli has returned from Shital Niwas, the Office of the President, after meeting with President Bidhya Devi Bhandari.

PM Oli had reached the President’s Office soon after an emergency meeting of the cabinet decided to dissolve the House of Representatives this morning.

He had reached the President’s Office with the recommendation proposal to dissolve the parliament.

The Parliament will be dissolved if President Bidya Devi Bhandari approves the proposal of dissolving the House of Representatives.

The cabinet decision, meanwhile, is most likely to be challenged in the Supreme Court as the Constitution does not have a clear provision for the dissolution of the House.
