Oli consults with his confidants on whether joining SC meeting

KATHMANDU: The beleaguered Nepal Communist Party (NCP) Chairman and Prime Minister KP Oli is holding discussions with his leaders close to him on Sunday morning to decide whether to join the Standing Committee (SC) meeting.

According to sources in Baluwatar, Oli and leader Subas Nembang are currently holding discussions. Deputy Prime Minister Ishwor Pokharel is reaching Baluwatar.

The Standing Committee meeting has been scheduled at 1 pm at Prime Minister’s residence in Baluwatar.

On Saturday, Oli warned Executive chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal “Prachanda” not to join the Standing Committee unless he withdraws the proposal against him.

In response, Chairman Prachanda said that the proposal would not be withdrawn and that a conclusion should be reached after discussing it in the meeting of the Standing Committee.

Senior leader Madhav Kumar Nepal’s faction said that the meeting would not be postponed even if Oli did not participate on Sunday. Likewise, senior leader Jhalanath Khanal said the meeting will be held at any cost.

“We are confident that the prime minister will attend today’s meeting,” Khanal added.

The last meeting of the Standing Committee was held on Wednesday.

The meeting approved the agreement reached between Oli and Prachanda to withdraw the Constitutional Council Act Amendment Ordinance and signatures submitted to the President demanding to summon a special session of Parliament.

But Oli did not withdraw the ordinance. He has put forward a new condition that the ordinance cannot be returned until Prachanda’s ‘charge sheet’ against him is returned.
