510 held for violating prohibitory order as of 9 am



KATHMANDU: Police have arrested 510 people on the charge of violating the prohibitory order in the Kathmandu Valley as of 9 am today.

Among those arrested are 353 males and 157 are females, according to police.

Those arrested have been kept in the holding center set up on the road itself.

Similarly, the vehicles operating without passes have also been taken under control.

As many as 242 vehicles including two-wheelers and four-wheelers have been seized this morning.

A huge number of security personnel have been stationed at major thoroughfares in the capital to implement the prohibitory order since early today.

People have been urged to stay indoors except for essential activities. The government has warned that those who violate the order will be penalized in line with the Infectious Disease Control Act, 1964 and Local Administration Act, 1971.

District administration offices of Kathmandu, Lalitpur and Bhaktapur jointly imposed the prohibitory order in the capital for a week starting Wednesday midnight.

It will remain effective until August 26.
