81 test positive in Kathmandu through RDT, Health Ministry unaware of their condition



KATHMANDU: The Ministry of Health and Population has made public the reports of coronavirus tests conducted at various places in Kathmandu Valley.

Through a regular live update of the Ministry of Health on Tuesday, Spokesperson at the Ministry, Dr. Bikash Devkota made public the results of the Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) and Rapid Diagnostic Test (RDT) at various places in Kathmandu.

According to Spokesperson Dr. Devkota, out of 2,236 people tested by the RDT method, 81 have tested positive.

He said that out of 700 samples tested using the RDT method in Kalimati area, three have tested positive.

Similarly, Dr. Devkota informed that all the reports of 334 people tested by the PCR method in the same area were negative.

Likewise, out of 664 sanitation workers of Kathmandu Valley tested through the RDT method, 31 tested positive while reports of 267 people tested using the PCR method came negative.

In Gongabu area, 420 people were tested in RDT and 15 of them tested positive. Similarly, 172 samples have been collected for PCR testing but the report is yet to come, said spokesperson Dr. Devkota.

Similarly, in Bhrikutimandap area, 452 people were tested through the RDT method and 32 of them reported positive.

According to Dr. Devkota, reports of 246 PCR samples are yet to come.

Spokesperson Dr. Devkota said that there was no information about the condition of 81 people who tested positive through RDT.

Dr. Devkota said, “Those who tested positive through RDT are also tested by the PCR method. There is no information that they are isolated when they test positive through RDT. I don’t know if contract tracing was performed.”

The Ministry of Health made public the results of the RDT test in the Kathmandu Valley in a live update on Tuesday after criticism over the non-disclosure of RDT reports.

Spokesperson Dr. Devkota did not give any information about the condition of those who tested positive through RDT.
