Mayor in Kalikot chased in a dispute over quarantine



KALIKOT: The Mayor of Shuvakalika Rural Municipality has been chased by locals when he reached Ward No. 4 with the proposal of establishing a quarantine in a school there.

Khadananda Chaulagain, the Mayor of Shuvakalika Rural Municipality was hounded by locals when a dispute arose about establishing a quarantine in the high school in the area.

According to the spokesperson of Shuvakalika Rural Municipality, the dispute arose when the locals objected to the Mayor’s proposal to establish quarantine in Mahadev Secondary School in Ward No. 4.

“They never listened to our demand that this ward should be made the center of the Municipality,” said Rabindra Shahi one of the protestors, adding, “They give no facilities but want to establish the quarantine in the middle of the village exposing a large number of people to coronavirus risk.”

He defended the act as the natural protest aggressive move of the Mayor. “Instead of addressing the problem, the Mayor came here with some hoodlums and tried to frighten the villagers, so the villagers chased the Mayor,” he said.

The locals have padlocked the school and the ward office after the protest.

The Municipality, on the other hand has issued a notice and demanded the action against the misbehave.
