Lockdown impact on Bhojpur’s vegetable farmers

BHOJPUR: Farmers in Bhojpur are adversely affected by the nationwide lockdown enforced against coronavirus pandemic.

They have unable to transport their produces to the market.

Local markets have remained closed and vegetables have started rotting in the field.

Several of them have been carrying vegetables in wicker baskets to the market.

Gita Bista of Bhojpur municipality-5 said she was feeding the vegetables she have grown up to animals for lack of market.

Farmers here have produced cauliflower, cabbage, potatoes and other green vegetables in the farm which they used to supply in the local markets twice a week: Saturday and Wednesday.

As their source of income has stopped with a halt of vegetables supplies due to lockdown, they are facing problems for a livelihood. Farmers from Bokhim, Pokhare, Taksar and Aamchek villages supply their produces to the district headquarters.
