Election should reflect people’s mandate: PM Oli

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has said that the electoral system cannot be improved without democracy as an election is the heart of democracy.

At the fourth Election Day Special Program organized by Election Commission here on Wednesday, Prime Minister Oli stressed that EC’s activities should be focused on increasing people’s participation in the election, to make elections cheaper, fair and transparent.

Saying the election should not be only peaceful, but it should also reflect the representation of the people, he praised the EC’s role for holding an election in a free and fearless manner.

The Prime Minister suggested the EC pay its attention to making arrangements to hold an election in a transparent manner, election cost cheaper and resources as there is no hectic schedule for EC.

He drew EC’s attention to hold a discussion on different issues on how to make coming election transparent, cheaper, increasing people’s participation and representing people’s sentiments, suggesting to accept the truth that democracy would be strong only if people’s mandate is accepted.

PM Oli said, “We have been moving ahead successfully to make Nepal prosperous through good governance and development for the country and to materialize national goal.”
