‘Federal government must transfer state media to the States’

BIRATNAGAR: Minister of Internal Affairs and Law of State 1, Hikmat Karki, has said that the federal government must hand over its state-based media outlets to the state government.

Speaking at a function to mark the 59th anniversary of Rastriya Samachar Samiti (RSS), the National News Agency, today morning at its state headquarters of Biratnagar, minister Karki said the State Government can’t sustain more state-level media and stressed to hand over all offices of National News Agency, Gorakhapatra, Radio Nepal and Nepal Television.

“I have talked with Prime Minister and he is also positive on this issue,” the State 1 government minister stated.
Karki said the ongoing payments for all reporters of government-owned media outlets must be increased to bring competitive stories in Nepali media.

On a different note, minister Karki said his ministry is always ready to support National News Agency with all possible means and resources.
