PM Oli, Dahal make another bid to hammer out consensus on Speaker

KATHMANDU: Chairmen of the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) KP Oli and Pushpa Kamal Dahal are making another attempt to forge a consensus on a new Speaker.

The Chairman duo is holding a meeting at the prime minister’s official residence in Baluwatar on Sunday morning.

The leaders of the ruling party have remained at odds over the selection of a new Speaker.

Chairman Oli is for picking former Speaker Subas Nembang as the candidate for the Speaker. Dahal has been insisting that leader Agni Sapkota is eligible for the post.

Likewise, President Bidya Devi Bhandari has been pressing NCP leadership to pick Deputy Speaker Dr. Shiva Maya Tumbahangphe as a new Speaker.

The meeting of House of Representatives has been postponed time and again as the leaders have remained at odds about Speaker.
