Nepal opens permit for winter ascents



KATHMANDU: The Department of Tourism has opened permits for the winter expedition of Nepal’s mountains.

Permits have been already issued for four mountains, according to the department.

Five mountaineers have taken permit to climb Mount Everest so far. Among them are two German and three Spanish nationals.

The department has also issued permits for Mount Nuptse (7,861), Mount Ama Dablam (6,814m) and Mount Rokpai (5,4667m) this winter season.

Five climbers have taken permits for Nuptse, 15 for Ama Dablam and two for Rokpai peaks.

A total of 27 people from five teams have so far received permits. Among them are 23 Spanish, two German and one US and Chinese national each.
