KATHMANDU: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has urged to ensure the right to justice of the conflict victims.
In a statement issued on the 14th anniversary of the signing of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA), the commission said that although some conflict victims had received interim relief and compensation, impunity had not ended due to the lack of action against those involved in serious human rights violations.
Among the various tasks of the peace process during this period, arms management, integration of insurgent fighters, the formation of a transitional judicial mechanism, the election of the Constituent Assembly, and constitution drafting and implementation, the Commission has stated that the conflict victims have not yet received justice.
The commissions on transitional justice have not yet been able to act in a way that would allow victims of conflict to experience justice in the absence of an amended law, NHRC added.
The Commission has stated that out of 1195 recommendations made by NHRC in the 20 years of its establishment, 940 recommendations are related to the past conflict but its implementation status is not satisfactory.
