Six killed, 17 missing as flooded Kailashkhola enters human settlement in Achham



ACHHAM: Six people have died and 17 others have gone missing after the flooded Kailashkhola entered a human settlement in Ramaroshan rural municipality-5 in Achham district.

According to Mukesh Kumar Singh, Acting Chief of Sudurpaschim Pradesh Police Office, Dipayal, as many as 30 shops were washed away after the flooded rivulet entered Sainibazaar area.

A rescue team from Nepal Army, Nepal Police, Armed Police Force and locals has been searching the missing people since early morning, said police. “Six bodies among those missing in the floods and landslides have been retrieved so far, said Singh”.

Meanwhile, two people have died in the landslide in Bajura district.  A three-year-old Sanika Budha died after a landslide buried her house in Khaptad Chhededaha rural municipality in the district.

Similarly, five-year-old Binita Budha and 60-year-old Nanda Budha sustained injuries.

The minor girl died and two others sustained injuries after a landslide coming from above buried their house, said Police Inspector Lokendra Singh Thagunna.

Likewise,   a woman died after being washed away by a swollen rivulet while she was heading for a mill to grind corns in Budhinanda municipality.

The deceased has been identified as Bhinu Lwar of Budhinanda municipality-6, confirmed Thagunna, the Spokesperson for the District Police Office, Bajura.

Likewise, an elderly has been found dead in Jagannath rural municipality-1, Piluchaur in the north-east region of the district this morning.

The body is decomposing and is yet to be identified, according to DPO, Bajura.
