KATHMANDU: The Standing Committee meeting of the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) slated for today has been postponed until Tuesday.

Secretaries at NCP Party Office Shri Ram Dhakal and Ishwori Rijal issued a statement stating that the meeting will be held at the Prime Minister’s official residence in Baluwatar at 11 am on Tuesday.

The meeting has been deferred time and again as top-notch leaders have failed to reach a consensus on power-sharing in the party.

Leaders including Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda and senior leaders Madhav Kumar Nepal and Jhalanath Khanal have been pressing Prime Minister and Chairman KP Oli to quit both the posts. However, PM Oli has remained adamant not to quit any time soon.

Earlier today, NCP Chairman ‘Prachanda’ held discussions with party leaders close to him at his residence in Khumaltar.

Senior leaders Nepal and Khanal and Secretariat Member Narayankaji Shrestha among other leaders were present at the meeting.

The meeting comes on the heels of reports that NCP Chairman duo Oli and Prachanda have agreed to hold the General Convention of the party in November-December.

Leader Nepal has vehemently expressed his dissatisfaction with the so-called agreement reached on Saturday, while Prachanda’s Secretariat has said that no consensus has been reached despite discussions on the issue.

With no consensus on sight regarding disputes within the party, NCP on Friday had postponed the Standing Committee meeting and held a Secretariat meeting on Saturday.

However, the much-anticipated Secretariat meeting too failed to make headway in resolving the contentious issues of the party.
