Public transport entrepreneurs ready to operate vehicles

KATHMANDU: Public transport entrepreneurs are preparing to operate public transport after the monetary policy addressed their demand for extension of the deadline for loan payment.

In a move to further ease the nationwide lockdown enforced to control the spread of coronavirus, the government on July 9 had decided to allow operation of public transport within the same district with fifty percent sitting capacity.

However, the Federation of Nepalese National Transport Entrepreneurs Association (FNNTEA) had refused to operate public vehicles demanding their concerns be addressed.

FNNTEA Senior Vice President Vijay Swar said that the transport will be operated within two-three days.

“We will discuss the matter with the government and will probably start operating public vehicles from Tuesday. Monetary policy is fine but long-distance transport should also be resumed,” he said.

With new provision introduced in the Monetary Policy issued by Nepal Rastra Bank, the COVID-19 pandemic struck industries have got the expanded period up to the end of the running fiscal year 2020/21 whereas the small debtors have got 6 months as extra time to pay for the loan.
