PM Oli warns of ‘unfortunate circumstances’ if MCC not endorsed

KATHMANDU: Amid uncertainty over the fate of the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) Compact, Prime Minister KP Oli looks determined to endorse it from the parliament anytime soon.

Sources said PM Oli, during Tuesday’s one-on-one meeting with Nepal Communist Party (NCP) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal, is learned to have told the latter that the MCC needs to be endorsed at any cost “or else, the government will be in trouble.”

PM Oli told Dahal that the government has decided to endorse MCC Compact from the ongoing session of the parliament ‘anytime soon’, no matter what.

“The government is in a difficult situation. You will be held responsible for the consequences,” sources quoted PM telling Dahal.

The Prime Minister also sought Dahal’s cooperation in this regard urging him not to obstruct the process.

Dahal, meanwhile, is learned to have reiterated his stance of holding discussion within the party for consensus on the issue. “If passed without consensus within the party, the situation can be unfavorable,” the source quoted Dahal as saying.
