Amresh Singh questions: ‘People’s war’, people’s movement happened for such democracy?

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) lawmaker Amresh Kumar Singh has ridiculed the government’s policies and programs by comparing it with a saying that is popular in the Terai region of Nepal.

Speaking in the House of Representatives on Monday during the discussion on the government’s policies and programs for the fiscal year 2020/21, he said, “Looking at the policies and programs, it is like that everything is fine in the country. The people are all right. There is no problem at all.”

Singh remarked that the 63-page policies and program presented by President Bidya Devi Bhandari on Friday is like a lesson for students from a teacher.

He said that while looking at the government’s policies program, he was afraid whether federalism would survive or not, whether republic, democracy would exist or not, inclusiveness would remain or not.

Singh said added that policies and programs don’t have any mention on how to tackle the coronavirus pandemic.

He also warned the people will impose a lockdown on the government after the lockdown ends.

Singh remarked that the Prime Minister could not get a clean chit from the people.

He questioned, “I would like to ask Nepal Communist Party lawmaker did you fight for such a republic and democracy? Was there a second people’s movement for such a republic?”

Singh also raised questions about the ‘people’s war’ and the peace process.

He asked, “Was there a people’s war for democracy like this?” Was there a peace process for such a democracy?”
