KATHMANDU: The Council of Ministers on Monday endorsed a new map of Nepal which includes lands encroached by India.

The map that includes Lipu Lekh, Kalapani and Limpiyadhura encroached by India was presented by Land Management Minister Padma Aryal at the cabinet meeting.

Minister for Tourism Yogesh Bhattarai also wrote on social network Twitter, “Today, the decision of the Council of Ministers of the Government of Nepal will be written in golden letters in the pages of history. Today’s date and the decision will remain immortal for ages to come. Thank you PM KP Oli. ”

The decision comes after India constructed and inaugurated a link road via Lipu Lekh connecting Tibet’s Mansarovar.

The government had on Friday, in its policy and programs, pledged to issue a new map soon.

Nepal’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs had criticized the unilateral construction of the road.

Immediately after the inclusion of Nepal’s territory in the map made public by India on November 2, 2019, parliamentary committees had put pressure on the Government of Nepal to make the new map public.
