Nepal reports nine new COVID-19 cases, tally hits 304

KATHMANDU: The Ministry of Health and Population has confirmed nine new coronavirus cases in Nepal taking the tally to 304.

Issuing a statement on Monday morning, Joint Spokesperson Dr. Samir Kumar Adhikari informed that nine people of Ishnath municipality and Madhavnarayan municipality of Rautahat district and Karaiyamai-5 of Bara district have tested positive for coronavirus.

The infected people are eight men aged 21, 21, 23, 25, 25, 29, 30 (Rautahat), 38 (Bara) and a woman aged 28 (Rautahat).

The new cases were confirmed after their swabs reports came out positive at National Public Health Laboratory, Teku this mornin. Their health condition is said to be normal.

With this, the number of coronavirus-infected people in the country has reached 310 as of Monday morning.

Currently, 268 are undergoing treatment at various hospitals in the country, of which 36 have recovered.

Two persons have died so far in Nepal.

On Sunday, a 25-year-old youth, who tested positive with coronavirus, died while in quarantine in Banke, the Health Ministry has said.

His swab specimen was collected for testing and had come out positive, according to Spokesperson at the Ministry of Health Dr Bikas Devkota.

The deceased was a recent returnee from Mumbai, India.

He had returned Nepal from Mumbai on May 12. Immediately after arrival he was taken to Naraina-based quarantine center in Banke.

According to Dr. Bikash Devkota, the spokesperson of the Ministry of Health and Population, medics from TU Teaching Hospital’s Community Medicine Unit, Dhulikhel Hospital’s Community Medicine Unit are working under the coordination of the Department of Epidemiology and Infectious Disease Control for the contact tracing.
