KATHMANDU: The parliamentary Legislation Committee has finally decided to formulate a law that would pave the way for the National Investigation Department (NID) to tap phones without court’s approval.
The government had, a few months ago, registered the Special Service Bill that included the provision that investigation officers can tap the phone conversation. Nepali Congress, the main opposition in the parliament, had objected to the provision arguing that it would infringe upon the people’s privacy.
The meeting of the Committee on Wednesday approved the provision.
