Six cases filed against man who threatened CIAA, others; three-day remand granted

KATHMANDU: Police have initiated an investigation against a man who allegedly threatened to kill officials, including the Chief Commissioner of the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA), by filing six separate cases against him.

According to District Police Range Kathmandu spokesperson SP Pawan Kumar Bhattarai, the accused has been identified as 34-year-old Prakash Pathak of Temal Rural Municipality-1, Kavrepalanchok, who had been residing in the Philippines.

Police said Pathak, who claimed to be the president of an “extremist group” or “Nepal EGN,” sent death threats on October 22, 2025, through his email account to the CIAA Chief Commissioner and nine other individuals.

He was brought to Kathmandu from the Philippines through Interpol coordination and presented before the Kathmandu District Court on Wednesday. The court has granted a three-day remand for further investigation.

Police have registered six cases against him on charges including public offense, fraud-related crimes, criminal benefit, and criminal conspiracy.

Pathak had earlier been placed on the police wanted list before being apprehended with the assistance of Interpol in coordination with Philippine authorities.
