SOLUKHUMBU: Police have opened fire in the air to contain a clash that erupted at a program organized to inaugurate the national power grid in the district on Saturday.

Police fired in the air and also lobbed teargas canisters at the protestors after Tingla locals obstructed the team heading from district headquarters.

Police resorted to action after protestors set ablaze some 16 motorcycles and a jeep.

Local burn tires to obstruct road.

The locals had announced the closure in the village protesting the inauguration of national power grid ‘neglecting’ the main affected area.

District Police Office, Solukhumbu said some protestors have sustained injuries in the clash.
