KARNALI: One hundred and fifty helpless people have been rescued in the Karnali Province to make free from street beggars.

These underprivileged people had been eking out their living begging on the street and public places.

This campaign is being implemented in collaboration with all the local levels, stakeholders and the Manav Sewa Ashram.

Secretary at the Karnali Province government’s ministry of social development, Dr Man Bahadur BK said preparations have been made for declaring the Province as free from helpless people who live by begging in the streets.

A meeting of the Karnali Province Council of Ministers on December 24, 2019, decided to declare the State as ‘Beggar-free State’.

Similarly, the second meeting of the Karnali Province Coordination Council on December 27, 2019 had passed a resolution to this effect.

The State government has constituted a Follow-up and Monitoring Group under the chairmanship of the chief of the District Coordination Committee for the implementation of this campaign.

Fifty helpless people have been sheltering at the Manav Sewa Ashram in Surkhet at present. Ashram coordinator Shreejana Oli said out of 150 helpless people rescued from the street in one year, 100 have been repatriated with their families.
