Four Koreans, two Nepalis missing in Annapurna Base Camp



KATHMANDU: Six people including four Korean tourists and two Nepali guides have gone missing in the Annapurna Base Camp, a popular trekking destination in western Nepal.

Four Korean nationals and two Nepalis are among those missing, according to District Police Office, Kaski.

Five out of nine Korean tourists, who had gone to trek Annapurna Base Camp, were rescued on Friday evening, DSP Dan Bahadur Karki informed Khabarhub.

They have been kept at a shelter called Himalaya and will be airlifted once the weather clears, said DSP Karki.

A rescue team comprised of police officials, tourism entrepreneurs and locals has reached Chhumrung to their rescue, Karki added.

Another team with rescue materials and tools has also reached Chumrung, TAAN western region chair Hari Bhujhel said.

Biting cold induced by snowfall and bad weather have created difficulties in the rescue operations, Karki said.
