KATHMANDU: The student organizations in the country’s largest and oldest Tribhuvan University (TU) have turned their focus on educational agendas after the TU upped its preparations for holding Free Students Union (FUS) election on February 24.
The student organizations that generally keep engaged with their maternal political parties’ activities and internal factionalism have now focused on academic issues.
The FSU election, which is taking place after a decade, is deemed important for building up good leadership in the campuses as well as orienting the young politicians for future.
Considering the same poll, the student wings of ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) and opposition Nepali Congress (NC) have beefed up their preparations.
All Nepal National Independent Students Union (ANNISU), the student wing of ruling NCP, has already decided to run the campaigns for strengthening public education by holding its first central committee meeting last week in Kathmandu.
However, NC’s student wing Nepal Student’s Union (NSU) is waiting for the party decision on NSU’s leadership since the tenure of the NSU’s central working committee has already expired.
ANNISU’s central committee coordinator Ain Mahar said that ANNISU will prioritize the issues of nationality to the agendas of the local campuses adding that the poll will be held in time.
Saying that they have decided to run ‘Our School, Good School’ campaign, Mahar added that education cannot ensure result without its revival thus his organization would take initiative for the schools’ reforms across the country after the FSU election.
He also promised to play role of quality education by making the students more aware. “Role of all is needed for this,” he added.
