NC leader Poudel expresses solidarity with sugarcane farmers’ protest



KATHMANDU: Senior leader of the main opposition party Nepali Congress (NC) Ram Chandra Poudel reached Maitighar on Friday to show solidarity with the agitation of sugarcane farmers.

Sugarcane farmers have been staging protests in Kathmandu demanding industrialists clear their dues immediately.

“Our party is always with the farmers,” Poudel said, “The government should not spare any effort to make sure that farmers get their pending amount. Our party demands that no injustice be done to the farmers.”

A meeting of the working committee of the NC Parliamentary Party held on Friday had decided to show solidarity with the sugarcane farmers’ protest.

Meanwhile, Industry Minister Lekhraj Bhatta and Minister for Federal Affairs and General Administration Hridayesh Tripathi met agitating farmers.

Both the ministers also expressed their commitment to making sure that their dues are cleared saying that they understood the plight of the farmers.
