Prachanda-Nepal faction convening meeting of Province 1 party leaders

KATHMANDU: The disgruntled faction of the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) has called a meeting of the district chairpersons and leaders of all seven provinces in Kathmandu as intra-party feud escalates.

On Friday, the leaders will hold a meeting with NCP leaders of the district and central members from Province 1 in Perisdanda in Kathmandu.

Likewise, the leaders will hold meetings with district chairpersons of other provinces also.

Party Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal “Prachanda” and senior leader Madhav Kumar Nepal have invited their confidants, including district chairpersons and secretaries of all seven provinces.

Likewise, central members representing the provinces have also been invited to the meeting.

The meeting has been called to brief them about the party’s ongoing situation and the latest development.

Sources said the meeting will dwell on the NCP intra-party feud, among other issues.

Party Chairman Prachanda, senior leaders Madhav Kumar Nepal and Jhala Nath Khanal, NCP Vice-Chairman Bamdev Gautam and Spokesperson Narayan Kaji Shrestha are scheduled to address the gathering to be held at the party office Parisdanda.

It may be recalled that the Prachanda- Nepal faction had also held a virtual meeting of district chairpersons and secretaries of Bagmati Pradesh last month.

The NCP is currently caught in a quagmire with both the factions – led by Prime Minister KP Oli and the other faction led by Prachanda and Nepal – have been holding factional meetings and gatherings of late.

The party dispute had taken a new turn with the ordinance brought by the government on the Constitutional Council.

An agreement has been reached between Prime Minister Oli and “Prachanda” on Wednesday with PM Oli agreeing to withdraw the ordinance, and Prachanda to withdraw the signatures of the lawmakers demanding convening a special session of parliament.
