Eight including Resham Lal Chaudhary sentenced to life in prison



DOTI: High Court Dipayal has sentenced eight individuals including lawmaker Resham Lal Chaudhary to life in prison on their connection with Tikapur carnage.

A division bench of Judges Tek Narayan Kunwar and Sitaram Mandal handed down the verdict to lawmaker Chaudhary and another Tharuhat leaders, the masterminds of Tikapur carnage.

In a hearing taken place till Thursday night, the High Court seconded the verdict of the Kailali District Court to slap life imprisonment on MP Chaudhary and seven other persons.

Those sentenced to life in prison are Laxman Tharu, Resham, Hari Narayan Chaudhary, Prdeep Chaudhary, Bir Bahadur Chaudhary, Rajesh Chaudhary, Sitaram Chaudhary and Ganga Lal Chaudhary.

Similarly, High Court sentenced Sundar Lal Kathariya, Brijmohan Chaudhary, Rajesh Chaudhary and Rajkumar Kathariya to five years in jail, reversing the previous decision.

On August 17, 2017, eight people including SSP Laxman Neupane had been killed in a demonstration staged in Tikapur of Kailali demanding a Tharuhat Province.

Earlier, District Court, Kailali had slapped 11 people with life imprisonment on the charge of plotting Kailali incident.
