Odd-even rule in Kathmandu Valley lifted from today

KATHMANDU: The District Administration Offices in the Kathmandu Valley have lifted the odd-even rationing system enforced on vehicles with effect from today.

All the three District Administration Offices–Kathmandu, Lalitpur and Bhaktapur–have jointly decided to remove the rationing system imposed on private and public vehicles with effect from today.

A joint meeting of the COVID-19 Crisis Management Center (DCCMC) of all the three districts was held before the decision was taken.

It should be noted that transport entrepreneurs and workers associated with the transportation had unilaterally announced to defy the odd-even rule imposed on public vehicles.

Issuing a press note, the agitating groups had taken a decision to this effect starting Friday saying that the lockdown imposed on March 24, prohibitory order on August 19 and odd-even rule on September 25 have adversely hit the transport sector.

The press-note jointly issued by the Federation of Nepali National Transport Entrepreneurs, Nepal Transport Workers Union, All Nepal Transport Workers Union, Nepal Transport Independent Workers Association of Nepal had said the government did not pay heed to their demand despite frequent requests.

They had also submitted a memorandum to the offices of Covid-19 Crisis Management Center (CCMC) and the District Covid-19 Crisis Management Center (DCCMC) on December 3 requesting the government to create a conducive environment to resume public transport.
