Chinese ambassador’s activities against the spirit of diplomacy: YCN

KATHMANDU: Youth Congress Nepal (YCN) said it is alarmed by the involvement of the Chinese Ambassador Hou Yanqi in Nepal’s internal politics.

The news published on various reputable media houses on Yanqi’s meeting with Prime Minister KP Oli concerning the possibility of split of the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) undermines the autonomy and the agency that Nepal enjoys in its internal affairs.

“It is against the spirit of diplomacy,” a statement issued by the Youth Congress Nepal said adding, “We strongly condemn such act.”

The statement further said, “The involvement of diplomats in any internal party affairs transgresses any diplomatic prerogatives and thus breaches the protocols that govern international diplomatic relations.”

It said that the Youth Congress Nepal draws the attention of the government and the Embassy of China on this usurping of Nepali autonomy and urges urges the concerned parties to not violate the directive principles of foreign policy guaranteed by the Constitution of Nepal 2015 based on the principles of sovereign equality and Panchaseel with “Non-interference in Internal Affairs” as one of its core values.

“We exhort the government to fully commit to its role as the guardian of national sovereignty and independence and not compromise the principles of and dignity of foreign policy for any individual or party gain.

The Youth Congress Nepal has also demanded the government to stop such interference in the future and advised the government to uphold the want of all Nepali citizens for self-determination.
