KATHMANDU: President Bidya Devi Bhandari on Wednesday issued an ordinance that would pave the way for the government to import vaccines against the coronavirus as soon as the vaccines are available in the international market.

President Bhandari issued the ordinance to amend the Drugs Act for the import of the vaccines against coronavirus.

The Constitution of Nepal has the provision that the President can issue an ordinance in the recommendation of the government to enact a law as and where necessary in the absence of the parliament.

It may be noted that the parliament is currently prorogued.
