KATHMANDU: General Secretary of the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) Bishnu Paudel has proposed resignation of all Secretariat members.
Paudel, also the Minister of Finance, made this proposal at the meeting of the Secretariat held at the Prime Minister’s official residence in Baluwatar on Wednesday afternoon.
Poudel said that failure to resign en masse would lead to unfortunate circumstances as “we have failed” to guide the party in the right approach.
“To prevent this from happening, it is high time that all of us resigned from the Secretariat and propose a new generation to the Secretariat in the Standing Committee,” Paudel said.
However, no decision was made on Paudel’s proposal.
The NCP has nine members in the powerful Secretariat. The members in the Secretariat include NCP Chairman and PM KP Oli, Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal, Senior leaders Madhav Kumar Nepal and Jhalanath Khanal, Vice Chairman Bam Dev Gautam, General Secretary Bishnu Paudel, Deputy Prime Minister Ishwor Pokhrel, Home Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa, and NCP Spokesperson Narayan Kaji Shrestha.
Prime Minister KP Oli has also been reiterating his stance of handing over the party leadership to the new generation.
Meanwhile, the meeting of the ruling NCP Secretariat has been postponed for 10 days.
The meeting has been postponed after Prime Minister KP Oli sought some more time to respond to the political report submitted by NCP Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal “Prachanda” in the previous meeting of the Secretariat.
According to party Spokesperson Narayan Kaji Shrestha, Prime Minister Oli would present a political report at the next meeting.
