KATHMANDU: Standing Committee member of the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) Bhim Rawal has sent a letter to the Federal Parliament Secretariat to take back Dashain allowance given to him.

In a letter to the General Secretary of the Parliament Secretariat on Sunday, Rawal, who is also a former minister, urged to make arrangements to return the allowance.

Expressing dissatisfaction that the Secretariat had deposited the allowance without informing them, Rawal requested to return the amount.

He said that MPs should not take the allowance during the pandemic.

Rawal said that Speaker could stop the allowance by making a policy decision.

Earlier, posting a Twitter message on Sunday, Rawal said he would not receive the allowance given the coronavirus pandemic that has seriously hit the nation.

“People’s representatives should relinquish the allowance given the economic crisis our country has been facing due to coronavirus pandemic. I fully concur with the lawmakers’ views that they should not receive Dashain allowance this time. Let the deposited allowance be deducted from my account,” Rawal tweeted.
