Nepal records 2,020 COVID-19 cases in highest single-day spike, tally jumps to 61,593



KATHMANDU: A total of 2,020 people have been diagnosed coronavirus positive in the last 24 hours in the highest single-day spike, according to Nepal’s Ministry of Health and Population.

The coronavirus tally has reached 61,593 with the fresh cases, Ministry’s Spokesperson Dr. Jageshwor Gautam said on Friday afternoon.

He added that the new cases were detected when 11,458 samples were tested in laboratories across the country. Nepal has carried out 894,373 Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) tests so far.

A total of 17,383 people are currently under isolation. Dr. Gautam stated that a total of people 8,088 are in home isolation and 9,295 in institutional isolation facilities.

Likewise, 7,736 people are in quarantine facilities across the country at present.

According to Dr. Gautam, 871 individuals got discharged from the hospitals in the past 24 hours while the number of people winning the battle against the virus reached 43,820 in the country.

Nepal’s recovery rate stands at 71.1 percent, he added.

Meanwhile, seven persons lost their lives to the deadly virus in the last 24 hours. The total death toll has reached 390 in the country.

Morang, Sunsari, Siraha, Kathmandu, Lalitpur, Bhaktapur, Makwanpur, Chitwan and Rupandehi districts have more than 500 active cases each, while Solukhumbu, Rasuwa, Mustang, Dolpa, Mugu and Humla districts are no case of coronavirus.
